Connie Seelye edged out her sister Carissa in the championship of the Dance Dance Revolution competition on October 9th. This was after Connie battled her way through the consolation bracket to reach the tournament finals.

Who put Connie there, you ask? Why her sister Carissa did. In the opening round of the tournament, Carissa and Connie tied! Carissa edged out a victory in the “overtime” dance.

Carissa Seelye wins UNO Challenge! September 27, 2010

We played 12 rounds of UNO and the winner was determined on the final game by less than 20 points! We even tried some experimental games of “DOS”… doubling the “Skip” cards, doubling the points for cards left in players hands at the end and requiring players to yell “DOS” when they had two cards. It was a fun twist – supplied by a suggestion.

Carissa Seelye edged out Kyle Franklin for the UNO Challenge title. Congratulations!

Kyle Franklin wins first two events September 14, 2010

The first two events of GameChamps 6.0 are in the books.

Kyle Franklin was victorious in the Rock-Paper-Scissors Throwdown, edging past Joe McCormick 4-3. The last throw was a wicked paper-covers-rock! Pretty tricky…   😉    (Joe is on the left in the picture and Kyle on the right.)

Kyle had luck with him again during the Tony Hawk Underground PS2 Showdown. Or, at least, he made Tony Hawk fall down fewer times than all his opponents. But it was all skill, right?

So, Kyle takes a slight lead over the pack at the beginning of the series. But there’s still 20 more events to go. You have a chance to get on the board on September 25: we’ll be playing the UNO Challenge, with a special trick game of DOS thrown in there…

New weighted points system introduced September 14, 2010

If you win a tournament with 16 people in it, it should be worth more points than a four-person competition, right?

That was the logic behind the new system we will be using this year. Here’s the details:

  • Board game participation earns 150  points
  • Video game participation earns 100 points
  • “Small game” participation earns 100 points
  • Winning a board game event earns 100 points, or 150 points if more than 10 people played.
  • Runners-up get 50 points, or 75 if more than 10 people played.
  • Third place winners earn 25 points, or 40 in a larger group.
  • Winning a video or small game event of less than 5 people earns 50 points; if 5-9 people play, 100 points; if 10 or more play, 150 points.
  • Runners up in video or small game events of 5-9 people earn 50 points, or 75 points if 10 or more play.
  • Video or small game events of 10 or more will award 25 points to semifinalists.

Confused? Just ask at a tournament and I’ll explain what is up for grabs!

Kyle and Jacob Franklin conquered the entire Star Wars RISK galaxy to capture the final event of the 2010 GameChamps season. They edged out Connie and Nathan Seelye in the final minutes of a battle for control of the board. In case you’re wondering, it was the “Dark Side” that won…

In the consolation round, Lorenzo Catalan beat Christian Martin and Christy Seelye in a close match, with each player competeing solo.

Congratulations go to Connie Seelye! By placing second in the Star Wars RISK Tournament, she earned enough points to take first place on the final competition of the year.

This was the closest GameChamps competition in the five year history of the events. Only 25 points separated her from the second place finisher Joey Brown. Joey was the 2009 champion.
